In the Mahābhārata, the sons and a daughter of King Dhṛtarāṣṭra are mentioned, and seer Vaiśaṃpāyana (वैशंपायन) said that Durayodhan is the part of Kali (कलि ). His other son is the Paulastya (पौलस्त्य), or descendants of Ṛṣi Pulastaya, reincarnated into the human world.

Besides these hundred sons, there was a daughter named Duhsala. All were heroes and Atirathas and were well-skilled in warfare. All were learned in the Vedas, and all kinds of weapons. And, O, king, worthy wives were selected for all of them by Dhṛtarāṣṭra after proper examination. And king Dhṛtarāṣṭra, O monarch, also bestowed Duhsala, in adequate time and with appropriate rites, upon Jayadratha (the king of Sindhu).'01.
