On the eighteenth day, the Madra king Śalya acts as commander before he, too, dies at Yudhiṣṭhira’s hands. Duryodhana’s remaining warriors are slaughtered, and he himself takes refuge in a lake. When he is discovered, it is agreed that he will fight a duel with clubs against Bhīma; Bhīma kills him by smashing his thighs with a low blow.
