38. Chang Laom Temple - Si Satchanalai

     Chang Laom Temple built in the Sukhothai period, circa 14th century A.D. It is a large Buddhist monastery located at the center od Si Satchanalai ancient town. Some scholars suggested that it was built in 1285 A.D., according to the Stele stone No.1 which remark about King Ramkhamhaeng dug up the  Buddha relics in order to pay homage to them before pre-bury and built the stupa over the remains.
     The main stupa of Chang Laom Temple is round-shape. The stupa which indicates art influence from Sri Lanka. The base is high and square. The front of the base has eight round-relief elephant sculpture, and the other sides feature nine elephant sculptures. There is an elephant sculpture at each corner of the base, a totally of 39 elephant sculptures around the base.
